Accused killer back in Douglas County

Tuesday, April 16, 2002 | 9:28 a.m.

Fiegehen, 23, waived a formal reading of the charges against him during a brief appearance in East Fork Justice Court.

Fiegehen is charged with murder for the Feb. 10 stabbing death of 50-year-old Alan Chorkey. He is also charged with attempted murder for the shooting of Chorkey's wife, Lorelle.

On Monday, prosecutors charged him with two other crimes, burglary and home invasion.

Prosecutors have not decided whether Fiegehen will face a possible death penalty if convicted.

"I have not made that decision yet. The investigation is still ongoing, and there's still a lot of forensics work," Deputy District Attorney Mark Jackson said after the hearing.

Also on Monday, Fiegehen waived his right to a preliminary hearing within 15 days, to give his lawyer Richard Young time to prepare.

A pre-preliminary hearing was set for May 1. He remained in jail without bail.

Fiegehen was arrested April 9 in Vincennes, Ind. He did not contest extradition to Nevada.
