Induction ceremony

Trini Lopez, Vikki Carr, Mayor Oscar Goodman, The Characters and Charo will be inducted into the Casino Legends Hall of Fame at 1 p.m. today at Tropicana. Admission is free.

UNLV poets

UNLV's MFA Poets celebrate National Poety Month with readings of works published in the literary journal Many Mountains Moving at 7 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 576 N. Stephanie St. in Henderson.

Children's Festival

The Annual Clark County Children's Festival, featuring cultural and craft activities and carnival rides, will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Winchester Community Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive. Admission is free. Call 455-7340.

Park programs

"Cows: Up Close and Personal," a talk and demonstration about the Santa Gertrudis breed of cattle, will be presented from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park on West Charleston Boulevard.

Also at the park, at 1 p.m. Sunday, a program/walk exploring desert wildflowers will be presented. Park entrance fee is $5 per vehicle. Call 875-4141.

Pet event

The 6th Annual Wag-A-Tail Wag-A-Thon, a 2-mile walk (for those with pets and without) and featuring pet demonstrations, tricks and photos, benefiting the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society, will start at 8 a.m. Sunday at Hills Park on Hillpointe Road in Summerlin. Registration fees are $20.

Karla Erovick, author of "Love to Date-Date to Love: Unlocking the Secrets of Dating," will sign copies of her book from noon to 2 p.m. today at Waldenbooks at Meadows mall.

Architects speak

Mark and Peter Anderson, brothers and architects from Seattle, will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday at UNLV's Paul B. Sogg architecture building, as part of an architecture lecture series sponsored by UNLV. Admission is free.

Varying genres

As part of the "Five From the Seventies" film series, the 1971 movie "Duel," directed by Steven Spielberg, will be screened at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Winchester Community Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive. Tickets are $2.

The "American Independent Films Series" continues at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with a screening of "Smoke," directed by Jim Jarmusch, at Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St. Admission is $2. Call 229-6383.

The city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will host auditions for youngsters in kindergarten through grade 12 for Missoula Children's Theatre's production of "Red Riding Hood" from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road. Call 565-2367.
