Nominations due for annual event
The deadline for nominations for the 32nd annual Clark County Mother of the Year Awards is April 19.
The awards will be presented May 5 at the Gold Coast. To nominate a woman, write a detailed letter about her accomplishments with regard to her children and family, and her achievements in the community. Include any obstacles she has had to face.
Be sure to include your name, address and phone number, as well as those of the woman being nominated. Send the letter to: Clark County Mother of the Year Awards, c/o Sandy Thompson, 2275 Corporate Circle Drive, Suite 300, Henderson, NV 89074. For information, call 259-4025.
Since 1970, the Clark County Mother of the Year Awards Committee has honored more than 300 women in a variety of categories.
Youth mentoring fund-raiser set
The Saints in the Service Youth Mentoring Community Service Program will sponsor a benefit car wash 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the 7-Eleven at Bonanza and Pecos roads.
Cash and food donations are welcome. Proceeds will benefit the mentoring program as well as Lutheran Social Services Help Care Center.
Pep Boys and Mission Industries have supplied all of the car wash materials to the youths.
Metro schedules job symposium
The Sheriff's Hispanic-American Recruitment Council is sponsoring the Hispanic-American Job Symposium 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Saturday at Valley High School, 2839 Burnham Ave., Room 254.

Event planned at Henderson park
The third annual Earth Day Birthday, presented by the LandWell Co., will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Mission Hills Park, U.S. 95 and College Drive, Henderson.
The event will feature entertainment and a variety of games and demonstrations.

Charleston Neighborhood Preservation
presents a Family Court judge candidates forum at 7 p.m. Monday at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave. There will be a question and answer period. Call 877-2438.
The "Wag-A-Tail, Walk-A-Thon"
two-mile fun walk to benefit the Las Vegas Humane Society will be held 8 a.m. Sunday at Hills Park in Summerlin. For more information, call 434-2009.
Community College of Southern Nevada
presents its Spring 2002 Job Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Cheyenne Campus, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave. Anyone who attends the fair will be eligible to receive free resume' writing services. Refreshments will also be available. Call 221-7950.
A new support group
for gay and lesbian Catholics and their friends has formed. The group meets 3 p.m. on Sundays, followed by Mass at 5 at Guardian Angel Cathedral, off the Strip and Desert Inn Road. The group also organizes social activities twice a month after Mass. For more information call Michael LaRocca 796-3566.
The Southwest Police
Motorcycle Training and Competition will be held 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Santa Fe Station, to benefit the Special Olympics. Admission is free. Call 229-3394.
Singer Karen Drucker
will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday at the First Church of Religious Science, 1420 E. Harmon Ave. Admission is $15. Call 739-8200.
