Letter: East side denied share of beltway
Tuesday, April 9, 2002 | 8:49 a.m.
The Clark County Commission has once again proven to me its myopic point of view.
When Bruce Woodbury, Myrna Williams and Company withdrew support for the eastern beltway they doomed the Sunrise community to decades of decay. Without the badly needed road improvements on the east side of town, its future is bleak.
As it stands right now it is impossible to drive from Charleston to Flamingo on any streets between Nellis and Hollywood. Talk about a "split community" -- this is not Berlin during the Cold War. Our wall is not built of concrete, but politics, ignorance and lack of foresight.
Zoning favors granted to golf course developers. Forgotten promises to make Hollywood a scenic drive.
Without our rightful portion of beltway, Sunrise will be at a completive disadvantage for years. Our already difficult traffic situation will worsen. Our property values will plummet. Our businesses will suffer, and by the time the commissioners complete the beltway it will cost twice what it will now.
How dare they withdraw support before public comment has been completed. At least pretend to listen to us before ruining our futures.
