Indictments returned against Metro officers

Monday, April 8, 2002 | 9:42 a.m.

Two Metro Police officers were indicted Thursday in unrelated criminal cases.

According to the indictments, which were unsealed Friday, Detective Jack Brandon faces robbery charges and Officer Sean Curd multiple drug charges.

Brandon, who remains free on $15,000 bail, faces two counts of robbery and one count of burglary in connection with the Feb. 22 robbery of Rae's Lounge, 2531 Wigwam Parkway.

The detective is accused of pepper-spraying two United Coin employees inside the lounge and making off with an undisclosed amount of cash in his Metro-issued green Pontiac Grand Prix.

Brandon will be arraigned April 10 by District Judge Donald Mosley.

Curd and his girlfriend, Amy Belle Winger, were indicted on one count each of being under the influence of a controlled substance and eight counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Curd was arrested after co-workers, who suspected the training officer was using drugs, reported him to supervisors.

When officers searched Curd's home in January, they reportedly found cocaine, steroids and Ketamine -- an animal sedative dubbed a club drug in recent years.

Curd and Winger, who were released from jail on their own recognizance, will be arraigned April 17 by Mosley.

Both Curd and Brandon have been suspended with pay pending the outcome of internal affairs investigations.
