GV casino added to lawsuit

Monday, April 8, 2002 | 11:14 a.m.

Harrah's Entertainment Inc. of Las Vegas has added Green Valley Ranch Station Casino in Henderson to the list of defendants in a patent infringement lawsuit.

The lawsuit, filed last July, claims that Station Casinos Inc.'s "Boarding Pass" multi-property slot club program violates three Harrah's patents. The patents deal with player recognition at multiple properties and assigning players cards within a tiered rewards system.

Harrah's tiered system is called "Total Rewards," and has been in place since April 2000. Harrah's is demanding triple damages in the lawsuit, claiming Station's violations of the patent have been "willful and deliberate."

A Station spokeswoman today declined to comment on the amended lawsuit.

The entity added to the lawsuit is Green Valley Ranch Gaming LLC, the subsidiary through which Station owns half of Green Valley Ranch and through which it operates the property, which opened in December.

Station's 50 percent partner in the hotel-casino is GCR Gaming, a company controlled by the Greenspun family of Las Vegas, owner of the Las Vegas Sun.
