Indie film festival kicks off at Brenden Theatres
Wednesday, April 3, 2002 | 8:26 a.m.
The New York International Independent Film and Video Festival is making a stop for the first time in Las Vegas, beginning this afternoon at the Palms' Brenden Theatres. Tickets are $10; festival screenings at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. are free. For tickets call (866) 468-7619 or on the Internet at nyfilmvideo.com.
The festival runs through April 10.
The festival features 150 films, shorts, animations and documentaries from around the world. Founded in 1993 by Stuard Alson, the festival also appears annually in New York and Los Angeles.
A highlight for Las Vegas film buffs is "Angel Blade," billed as "a psychological erotic thriller," featuring (as themselves) Mayor Oscar Goodman and casino mogul Bob Stupak, along with David Heavener ("Prime Target"), Marc Singer ("The Beastmaster"), Margot Kidder ("Superman"), Richard Moll ("Night Court") and Louis Mandylor ("My Big Fat Greek Wedding"). The film screens at 8 p.m. today.
Synopses of select featured films can be found on the festival's website.
Festival organizers say entries from Canada, Spain, Brazil, Turkey, Malta, Tunisia, Germany, Ireland and the United Kingdom will be featured.
