Ex-Nye official pleads guilty to lesser charges

Wednesday, April 3, 2002 | 10:43 a.m.

A former Nye County public administrator pleaded guilty Tuesday to reduced charges moments before jury selection was to begin in his theft case.

Robert Dyer, 60, faces a maximum possible sentence of 15 years in prison when Senior Clark County District Judge Joseph Pavlikowski sentences him June 14.

Dyer and his wife, Jennette, were charged in 1999 with 35 theft-related counts after being accused of stealing from the estates of deceased people.

Robert Dyer pleaded guilty to three of the 35 counts.

According to police, the couple took vehicles and other items, including televisions and refrigerators, from the estates, then sold the items.

Robert Dyer was recalled from office Jan. 18, 2000. Jennette Dyer resigned about three months earlier.

Jennette Dyer was also supposed to go on trial this week, but she is missing. A bench warrant was issued for her arrest in March.
