Peter Benton's golf column appears Wednesday.
Beautiful weather and a course in pristine shape greeted a large field of golfers who gathered at the Las Vegas Country Club last week for their annual Men's Member Guest Tournament.
On holes 1-6, the two-man teams played best ball; on holes 7-12 it was Chapman Scotch (alternate shots after both players teed off); and on holes 13-18 it was a scramble. The two low teams in each 6-hole format of the four flights were prize winners.
In the Blue Devils Flight, best-ball, Rob Martinez and Lee Fair won with a 20 while six teams shared second with 21s. They were Don Dombrowski/Frank Neilson, Ray Demman/Bob Cheney, Bill Fain/Eric Schroeder, Guy Hudson/Tony Hickey, Charlie Pape/Jeff Haldeman and Bob Vennes/Bo Brennan.
Chapman Flight victors with 19.2 were Demman and Chaney followed at 20.4 by the Pape/Haldeman pairing. In the scramble segment, Martinez and Fair at 19.8 prevailed over Coe Power and Mark Ashworth with 20.2.
Gary Ashworth and Keith Lopeman shared best ball honors in the Ducks Flight with the pairing of Dick Oshins/Steve Sundquist and Lance Shoen/Sam Sakowitz. All came in with 20s.
Chapman Scotch winners were the Ashworth/Lopeman twosome at 20 followed by Frank Reed and Zeke O'Leary with 23.4.
Oshins and Sundquist tied with the Shoen/Sakowitz duo to share the scramble segment with 17.7. Sooner Flight best-ball winners with a 19 was the John Boyer /Rick Schneider team followed by Leo Durant/Ray Jones and Jim Wade/David Korrey with 20s.
