Move to recall Guinn filed

SUN CAPITAL BUREAU
CARSON CITY -- Carlo Poliak, a perennial candidate for public office, will need to gather the signatures of 88,223 registered voters in the next 90 days in order to force a recall election for Gov. Kenny Guinn.
Poliak filed notice Monday to proceed with a recall petition to oust Guinn from office, because, he said, the governor failed to stop the state Public Utilities Commission from approving an increase in electric rates by Nevada Power Co.
Poliak ran for governor in 1994 and 1998 and for Las Vegas mayor and Clark County Commission, never getting past the primary elections.
The utilities commission last Friday allowed Nevada Power to collect an additional $485 million in higher rates. The utility sought $922 million.
