Letter: Environment prelude to power

Tuesday, April 2, 2002 | 8:35 a.m.

The environmental movement is not about saving the planet, the caribou, polar bear or oil. Its aim is political power. Government control over every activity. Private ownership, yes, but use limited to those activities approved by the ruling elite.

Back in the 1930s and '40s similar political parties then prevalent proudly called themselves Socalists and Fascists as they took over the power in Germany and Italy. The enviros' aim is the same as their predecessors: government control over the private sector of our nation. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it is probably a duck. I find it very scary.

After living in Spain for four years during Franco's administration, I readily recognize the similarities.
