The drive home won’t be a drag for tipsy race fans
Monday, April 1, 2002 | 8:56 a.m.
Race fans who have had a few beers too many won't have to hazard the drive home during the Summit Racing.com NHRA Nationals this weekend.
The Las Vegas Motor Speedway has partnered with Designated Drivers Inc. to provide safe rides home for those who ask during the races Thursday through Sunday.
Designated Drivers will have a booth on the midway behind the main grandstand, where those who wish a ride can ask for one.
Fans also can call the Designated Drivers hotline, (702) 456-7433, and make an advanced reservation, or ask a speedway staff member or law enforcement officer at the track to arrange a ride for them.
During the races, Designated Drivers will provide a trained licensed driver for free to transport those fans home safely in the fans' own vehicles. A second volunteer follows to return the designated driver to the speedway.
Designated Drivers is in its third year at the speedway.
"We value our relationship with LVMS, the fans, staff and law enforcement agencies that promote and support us at these events," Lance Krig, special events coordinator of Designated Drivers, said.
For more information, call (702) 456-7433 or see the website (designated-drivers.com).
