Casino supplier’s loss narrows

Monday, April 1, 2002 | 11:01 a.m.

Mikohn Gaming Corp. of Las Vegas, which makes casino gaming machines, today said its fourth-quarter loss narrowed as sales rose 29 percent.

The loss in the quarter ended Dec. 31 narrowed to $10.2 million, or 80 cents a share, from $24.7 million, or $2.24, in the year-ago quarter. Sales rose to $31.3 million from $24.2 million, the Las Vegas-based company said in a statement.

Sales were helped by a 33 percent increase in revenue from its licensed slot games and the installation of 120 new machines. Mikohn also reduced expenses and cut about 14 percent of its employees after business slowed following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Mikohn operates more than 2,679 leased slot machines and table games under licensed brand names like Yahtzee, Battleship, Monopoly and Clue. The shares fell 36 cents to $5.23 in early trading today.
