Letter: Proud to fly American flag
Friday, Sept. 28, 2001 | 4:25 a.m.
We recently moved to Las Vegas and purchased a home. We have never been involved in a homeowners association.
Before we signed our name on the dotted line I asked the Realtor if we would be allowed to fly our American flag, and bluntly told him "no deal" if we couldn't. I really wanted to believe no such rule existed. Fortunately our flag flies proudly every day. In some association tracts they do not.
Maybe all those association rules didn't mean a thing when you purchased your home. Most of them are common sense, and no decent citizen would do those things. But, folks, read your manual again. Stop and think about those lovely gates that keep your homes protected. Those same gates could be used tomorrow by terrorists to keep you in!
Homeowner associations need never be if we all lived as good, decent neighbors. Because the bad guys have abused homeowner privileges, the rest of us have been forced to surrender the freedom of owning our own homes.
The firemen of New York sacrificed and none of them are running. Instead they are running into the inferno of dangerous battles. How about us? Where are we running?
