Letter: Las Vegans can help each other right now
Friday, Sept. 28, 2001 | 9:16 a.m.
Our hearts and minds still abhor the intrusion of America. It may no longer absorb our thoughts 100 percent, yet it lingers and pokes it's ugly head up throughout our waking hours.
For some it continues as they sleep. The blow left us all feeling helpless to aid our fellow Americans. We opened our hearts and our pocketbooks for the victims in New York. We fell to our knees and prayed to end our fears of the worst and to give us strength to endure the days to come.
Now it's time to take a look at what we, as Las Vegans, need to do for our victims of the attack on Sept. 11.
Our local media need to pull together and take a good look and read into the results of the print they put in our newspaper and their choice of subject matter.
Does it instill fear, gloom and doom for Las Vegas in the readers' and listeners' minds? It's time for Las Vegas to rally around the flag! Our hearts and pocketbooks need to open for the needs in our city and our victims.
We, as a community, need the help of those available to volunteer where it is necessary. We don't need to be in New York to help those who cry out. Our city, Las Vegas, is about to cry out! Why are we waiting for a whimper of those who are victims to grow into a cry for comfort and support from us who can give it?
We must come together before we are pulled apart by the terrorists' victory! Remember the last four letters of American is "I can." Can you? Will you?
