Letter: Don’t put guns in pilots’ hands

Friday, Sept. 28, 2001 | 4:25 a.m.

Guns in the cockpit -- get real. Let's just prevent people with guns or weapons from entering the cockpit.

Pilots need a bulletproof security door and it needs to remain closed during flight. No flight attendants going in and out. No pilots going in and out. Pilots need their own mini-kitchen and bathroom facilities all behind that security door.

They don't need to walk the length of the plane greeting passengers and shaking hands. We will all understand they are being kept safe so they can do their job and land us all safely at the airport of our destination.

If guns in the hands of the "good guys" is decided upon, have an armed trained professional with the passengers like El Al of Israel does. They don't get hijacked!
