New hotel-casino gets gaming OK

Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001 | 11:12 a.m.

The Nevada Gaming Commission gave its unanimous approval to the $265 million Palms hotel-casino Wednesday, clearing the way for the property to open in November.

The Palms, majority owned by the Maloof family of Albuquerque, N.M., had already received the unanimous recommendation of the state Gaming Control Board for a gaming license Sept. 12.

The 42-story, 455-room Palms is scheduled to open on Flamingo Road just west of the Strip on Nov. 15. Minority shareholders in the project include Station Casinos Inc. and the Greenspun family, owner of the Las Vegas Sun.
