Las Vegas area fishing report

Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001 | 9:56 a.m.

Updated Sept. 27, 2001

Boaters have reported to the Nevada Division of Wildlife that they have had good success this week for stripers that are on or near the surface in the Boulder Basin. Las Vegas Bay, Government Wash, Callville Bay and Boxcar Cove have all been productive for stripers in recent days.

About the only success that has come from the bank has been north of Hemenway Harbor and the north end of Boxcar Cove.

NDOW creel census clerks said that boaters caught very few stripers over the weekend in the Overton Arm. About the only fishing success in that part of the lake has been coming from theVirgin River narrows where boaters are catching largemouth bass.

One fisherman reported to NDOW that he caught a limit of 10 trout following last Friday's plant. He was casting a bronze Super Duper lure and said he was getting strikes on most of his casts.

The next trout plant was scheduled for today, with the fish being stocked from a barge.

Very few stripers have been caught at Willow Beach during the past week. Boaters are finding fair action for stripers from the narrows above Cottonwood Cove to Owl's Point.

Rainbow trout were stocked by NDOW last week at Haymeadow. Cold Springs is scheduled to be stocked today.

A brown trout that measured 24 inches and weighed more than seven pounds was caught with a lure last week. The lake was stocked with rainbow trout last Thursday.
