Lorenzi Park event to benefit MS group

The German Festival will be held 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday in Lorenzi Park, 3333 W. Washington Ave.

The event, to benefit the Desert Southwest Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, will feature the German festival band Chico Bavarian, music by the Internationals and traditional folk dancing by Almenrausch Schuplattler.

Channel 10 plans bus excursion

KLVX Channel 10 has planned a trip to the fall season of the Utah Shakespearean Festival, leaving 8 a.m. Saturday from Channel 10, 4210 Channel 10 Drive, near Eastern Avenue and Flamingo Road.

Round-trip bus transportation will be provided from Channel 10 to the festival, a boxed lunch, a ticket to the performance of "The Fantastiks" and a reception for the group.

Tickets are $60 for Channel 10 members and $85 for nonmembers. For reservations or more information, call 799-1010.

Benefit event set at county center

The second annual Arts in the Community/Family of Unity festival will be 1-6 p.m. Saturday at the County Government Center Amphitheater, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.

The Latin band Vida and the Mexico Vivo Dance Company will perform, vendors and other booths will be set up and a silent auction will be conducted.

The proceeds will benefit Child Haven, Clark County Parks and Recreation Scholarship Fund, Southern Nevada Area Health Education Center and Nevada Domestic Violence Prevention Council.

The Christian Motorcyclists Association

is hosting its Nevada State CMA Rally on Friday at the KOA campground, 4315 Boulder Highway. Rally activities will include bike games, music, refreshments, bike runs, activities for children. All motorcycle enthusiasts are invited to attend. Call 363-7117.

A coalition of environmental groups

will host Nevada's Not a Wasteland Day at Mountain Crest Park, Durango and Lone Mountain roads, noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The coalition will serve food, play music and provide information on alternative energy and sustainable living. Admission is free.

Ken Blanchard, author of the "One Minute Manager,"

will speak 9 a.m. Friday at the Bellagio ballroom as part of a seminar on "Volunteer Leadership in the New Millennium." The program is sponsored by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Adult Continuing Education division, the Bellagio, MGM MIRAGE and Boyd Gaming. Cost is $25. For more information, call (702) 895-3394.

North Las Vegas Police

Explorer Post 509 is hosting an open house for teenagers interested in careers in law enforcement 7 p.m Oct. 3. The Explorer Post, affiliated with Boy Scouts of America, gives young people ages 14 to 20 a chance to learn about the field through work with police officers and staff.
