Letter: Goodman has priorities askew

Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001 | 9:06 a.m.

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman recently chided local resorts for sending large contributions to the World Trade Center relief efforts while, at the same time, laying off employees.

The mayor was correct in reminding us that charity begins at home. The mayor also proposed that we do our part and rush right out and financially support these very same resorts! This proposal is ridiculous, but sadly seems par for the course.

Remember, this is the same mayor who said "no" to opening the MASH village tent ($200,000 to help the homeless in our area). At the same meeting the mayor said "yes" to spending $500,000 to see how we could best use an empty dirt lot!

It appears to me that both the resorts and the mayor are guilty of using the "Priorities of Arrogance."
