Lloyd S. Balanow
Lloyd S. Balanow, 81, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 28, 1920, in Friendship, Wis. A resident for 16 years, he was a retired grocery store butcher and a World War II Navy veteran.
He is survived by six daughters, Maryellen Balanow, Therese Cuthbert, Christine Lamonica and Ethel Miller, all of Las Vegas, Holly Carey of Sacramento and Marilyn Quigg of Battle Creek, Mich.; two sons, Bill Balanow of Steger, Ill., and Leo Balanow of Homewood, Ill.; two sisters, Sophie Smith of Las Vegas and Rose Pote of Hometown, Ill.; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. services Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Cemetery.
Roger L. Buss
Roger L. Buss, 75, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 8, 1925, in Illinois. A resident for 25 years, he was a self-employed carpenter and a Coast Guard veteran.
He is survived by one son, Roger L. Buss Jr.; two daughters, Donna Buss and Debra Mayer; three brothers, Bill Buss, Rich Buss and Jack Buss; one sister, Dorothy; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.
David Butts
David Butts, 49, of Henderson died Friday in Henderson. He was born Oct. 2, 1951, in Cumberland, Md. A resident for three years, he was a retired automotive mechanic.
He is survived by his wife, Clare V.; one daughter, Kerry Butts, and two sons, Steven Butts and Andrew Butts, all of Henderson; one sister, Mary Eileen Miller, and two brothers, Sylvester Butts and Douglas Butts, all of Cumberland.
Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 130 N. Pecos Road, Henderson. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
Margaret 'Peggy' Churik
Margaret "Peggy" Churik, 68, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born March 21, 1933, in Yonkers, N.Y. A resident for seven years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Steven; one daughter, Gail Eskew of Indianapolis; one son, Robert Churik of Naperville, Ill.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled 1 p.m. until a 3 p.m. service Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 1325 E. Harmon Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89119.
Frank N. Friend
Frank N. Friend, 87, of Pennsylvania died Wednesday in Lafayette Hill, Pa. He was born Oct 20, 1913, in Norristown, Pa. A former Las Vegas resident, he was a retired tool and die maker, a member of Charity Lodge 190 F&AM in Norristown and Scottish Rite in Allentown, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy I.; one daughter, Lore Slough of Norristown; one sister, Lillian Little of New Jersey; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
No local services are scheduled. Bailey Funeral Chapel Ltd., Norristown, is handling arrangements.
Michael Pavalko
Michael Pavalko, 91, of Las Vegas, died Saturday in North Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 23, 1910, in Ronco, Pa. A resident for 15 years, he had been a tile setter.
He is survived by one son, Ronald Pavalko of Kenosha, Wis.; one sister, Ann Kemment of Wilmington, Del.; three brothers, Joseph Pavalko of Boardman, Ohio, John Pavalko of Ocala, Fla., and Charles Pavalko of Youngstown, Ohio; two grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Bunkers Mortuary is handling arrangments.
Irene R. Wisner
Irene R. Wisner, 80, of Grandville, Mich., died Saturday in Jennison, Mich. A former Las Vegas resident, she helped form the Grand Rapids Community Education Program and headed the Wisner School of Transportation for Handicapped Children, was a volunteer at the Southern Nevada Boys Home and participated in carrying the 1996 Olympic torch.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Diane Beckholt.
She is survived by her husband, Keith; two daughters, Patricia Davis and Linda Webb; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
No local services are scheduled. Matthysee-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, Grandville, is handling arrangements.
The family suggests donations to the Hospice of Visiting Nurses, 1401 Cedar NE., Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
