Reno loses seven flights

Friday, Sept. 21, 2001 | 10:49 a.m.

RENO -- Cuts by major airlines following last week's terrorist attacks in New York and Washington are being felt at Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

Seven flights to Reno are being cut, including two flights to Chicago, three to Los Angeles, one to Phoenix and one to Portland.

They will be offset by two new flights to Denver on Oct. 1.

The airport now has 40 percent fewer departures than during its peak in 1997, when the former Reno Air operated a hub here.

"Everything is a moving target right now," said Tom Medland, director of marketing and air service development for the Washoe County Airport Authority.

Air service is considered a key element in the region's visitor-dependent region.
