Letter: Innocents have nothing to hide

Friday, Sept. 21, 2001 | 5:18 a.m.

Just as the war on drugs has been unsuccessful, this war on terrorists will also fail if we don't fight it in our own country. Until we take control of our borders and limit the activities of foreign guests we will never be safe. The civil libertarians who demand unlimited freedoms are protecting our enemies.

All of the hijackers were known suspects, and they could have been detected if we had allowed our technology to aid our law enforcement. Facial recognition equipment, used at airports and sporting events, could have prevented the recent attacks.

At last year's Superbowl the use of such equipment was demonized. If you are afraid of a camera, you have something to hide, and if you have something to hide you are not a friend.
