Letter: Don’t let this stop economy

Friday, Sept. 21, 2001 | 5:18 a.m.

As horrific as the recent terrorist attack was, three buildings and a major casualty list alone will not crumble our nation and the world ... but our reaction to the event could. It's up to us. We are in the driver's seat now ... we are not passengers.

We need to continue to live our lives as normal ... working, traveling, investing and spending. Businesses need to keep people on the payroll, even forgoing profits, perhaps absorbing losses, in the short-term (18 months).

We must keep people employed and keep the economy moving. The domino effect of doing otherwise is unthinkable and will have consequences much worse than the attack itself. We need to live this message and spread the word. We need to write our leaders. We need to do it now.
