Valley Hospital post to host open house
Valley Hospital Medical Explorer Post 842 will hold an open house 7 p.m. Thursday at the hospital, 620 Shadow Lane featuring programs for youth, ages 16-20, who want to learn about health careers and the field of medicine.
The year round programs will give young people practical, hands-on experience in the medical field through workshops, classes and programs in a variety of hospital departments and mentoring relationships with doctors, nurses and support staff.
Explorer Post 842 is an accredited member of the Clark County Exploring program, which is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America. Those interested in the program or attending the open house are asked to call Dena Dzierbicki at 388-4668.
Police, firefighters will face off in soccer
The fifth annual Guns vs. Hoses soccer game will feature police against firefighters Sept. 29 at University of Nevada, Las Vegas' Peter Johann Memorial Soccer Field.
The halftime show will include a demonstration by the Metro Police K-9 Detail. Tickets are $3 and the proceeds of the game will go to the Children's Miracle Network and the University Medical Center's Burn Unit. Call 229-3394.
