Three life sentences to Dozier

Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001 | 9:34 a.m.

A Las Vegas man convicted of drugging two women, sexually assaulting them and videotaping the acts said he has a lot to offer society.

Clarence "Jim" Dozier told District Judge Mark Gibbons Wednesday that sending him to prison wouldn't accomplish anything but inflict pain upon his family.

"Your honor, I am not a monster, and I'm not a deviant or a predator. I am a good man," Dozier said.

Dozier, 41, reminded the judge he spent years in the medical field. He was an assistant perfusionist, someone who operates heart and lung machines during heart surgeries.

Dozier was convicted last month on 25 sexual assault charges and one count each of kidnapping and using drugs in the commission of a crime.

Gibbons said it was clear Dozier feels no remorse for his actions. He sentenced him to three consecutive life sentences, 23 concurrent life sentences and 16 months to six years on the drug charge.

Dozier will have to spend at least 31 years in prison before he is eligible for parole.

Authorities said Dozier drugged two women who had broken up with him in the past, then sexually assaulted them while they were unconscious. He was arrested after one of the women awakened during one of the assaults and police found the pornographic videotape.

Dozier maintained the sex was consensual, but jurors said the videotape clearly showed the women were unconscious.

Several of Dozier's relatives testified on his behalf, but each one was cut short when they began to criticize one of his victims.
