Salt Lake boot campaign beats LV firefighters

Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001 | 9:34 a.m.

SALT LAKE TRIBUNE

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah firefighters may have beaten Las Vegas at its own game.

The friendly "fill the boot" competition between Utah and Southern Nevada firefighters usually has been no contest. Southern Nevada's firefighters have raised more money than Utah every year.

But this year the Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County firefighters got a boost from the Utah Bikini Team, a group of women who volunteered to help the firefighters wash cars to raise money for the annual Jerry's Kids' muscular dystrophy campaign over Labor Day.

Utah firefighters raised $368,000 for the campaign, up from the $315,000 raised last year and $7,000 better than Southern Nevada.
