Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001 | 10:45 a.m.

Two affiliated companies have filed requests with Nevada Insurance Commissioner Alice Molasky-Arman to raise rates for homeowners insurance 10 to 14.8 percent.

United Services Automobile Association is proposing a 14.8 percent increase for the 9,506 homes and 918 condominiums it covers in Nevada. The rate would be effective in March 2002. The last previous rate change was a 5.1 percent decrease in December 1998.

USAA Casualty Insurance Company is asking for a 10 percent rate increase for the 4,446 homes and 384 condominiums it covers. It would also be effective in March 2002. The last rate change was a 5.6 percent decrease in December 1998.

Molasky-Arman said the applications are subject to review, and she can hold a public hearing if she deems it appropriate.
