Letter: Walk a mile in their shoes

Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001 | 9:21 a.m.

After reading Sunday's letters to the editor I was shocked and disgusted that any person could be so rude as to disrespect the dead in the letter marked "Passengers are real culprits" by John Heple.

I realize that because we live in such a great country we are allowed to speak our minds and everyone is entitled to an opinion. But I believe we have crossed a line here that was best left alone.

We have no clue what those passengers went through or had to suffer with. As I understand it there were children aboard some of those flights. What person would dare to defy a terrorist with a knife at a child's throat?

Since we do not know what really happened we must believe that these people did not die in vain.

To you, Mr. Heple, I say that until you have walked a mile in their shoes or have been in a situation like theirs, you need to remember that "it is better to be thought of as a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt." You, sir, are a fool.
