Letter: Better if events not canceled
Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001 | 9:13 a.m.
Regarding the tragedies of Sept. 11 in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania, I firmly believe that no sporting event or any other event should have been canceled, and no business or government agency or entity should have been closed down in response to these attacks. That is just what the perpetrators of these atrocities would want. If all these activities are stopped, they have won, pure and simple.
As to "national unity," I will give President Bush the same respect and support most right-wing Republicans gave Bill Clinton in the Kosovo conflict. By the way, if our "appointed" president hadn't spent a month chopping wood in Texas and had given more attention to the middle, maybe this wouldn't have happened.
Nobody knows who was responsible. For the United States to attack some innocent country in frustration and rage would only compound the tragedy.
