Letter: Cameras would improve security

Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001 | 8:30 a.m.

Face-recognition technology could have prevented the terrorists from boarding the aircraft on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, our leaders still put individual liberties above the safety and security of the public. We need to recognize that most crime is committed over and over by a small minority of the population.

Cameras at airports, sporting events and other places where there are large numbers of people could prevent most of these crimes.

Our local leaders' decision to eliminate work cards will lead to crimes in our hotels and casinos. Only the magnitude of the crime is in doubt. Had the Stratosphere collapsed, what would the future of Las Vegas be?

If you have nothing to hide, you have no reason to fear a camera. I feel that my safety in a public place is more important than someone's right to their civil liberties.
