Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001 | 10:35 a.m.

Even before Las Vegas visitor volume began sinking after Sept. 11's terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, visitation fell in July.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported Monday that visitor volume fell 1.4 percent from July 2000 to July 2001, from 3.11 million to 3.06 million people.

Convention attendance was up 27.7 percent during the same period, from 152,392 conventioneers in July 2000 to 194,540 this year.

Visitor volume in Laughlin was down 4 percent in July, from 404,688 to 388,347, but up 2 percent in Mesquite, from 132,073 to 134,672.
