Jury sides with man in suit

Monday, Sept. 17, 2001 | 9:56 a.m.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- A federal jury has awarded $200,000 to a Middletown man who claimed he had been brutalized by state police at the Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Hassan Sabir, 44, in his lawsuit, said state police beat and strangled him in a 1996 confrontation at the casino after he had gone to complain about a broken keno machine.

The lawsuit named state Police Detective James C. Jowett, Detective Dennis Lisee, Trooper Lewis Fusaro and the State of Connecticut. The jury delivered its verdict Friday.
