Several performers cancel Las Vegas shows

Friday, Sept. 14, 2001 | 9:33 a.m.

Either because of travel problems or out of consideration for the gravity of the terrorists' attack in New York City and Washington, D.C., a number of entertainers have canceled or postponed performances in Las Vegas.

Many performers are planning benefits and taking other steps to aid victims of the attacks.

Local guitarist and vocalist Shawn Eiferman composed a song that he debuted Thursday night at the Nils Lofgren Guitar Bar in the Reserve hotel. He created a CD of "Find a Way," which may be purchased at Mars Music on South Maryland Parkway. All proceeds from the sale of the CD will be donated to the Uniform Firefighters of Greater New York Widows' and Children's Fund.

Blues musician John Williams, of John Earl's Boogey Man Band fame, is planning a benefit that will be held in early October. The performance will be at the Royals Blues Palace & Restaurant on South Decatur Boulevard.

Clint Holmes, Bill Acosta, Bob Anderson, Lance Burton, Frankie Scinta and other local performers also are planning a benefit, details of which will be released in the next few days.

About a dozen performers have canceled or postponed their shows.

Magician David Copperfield, who was to have begun a two-week engagement at the MGM Grand Thursday night, delayed the start of his show until Saturday.

Other schedule changes include:

* Clint Holmes canceled tonight's performances at Harrah's but will resume Saturday.
