Letter: Bush, like dad, likely to fail
Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001 | 8:43 a.m.
I found your editorial page on Friday, Sept. 7, to be quite interesting.
First, there was the Carl Ridenour letter spreading the great Republican lie that this sinking economy is really the fault of Bill Clinton. On the next page there was economist Paul Krugman explaining precisely why the tax cut from President Bush was irresponsible and why it has already caused immense damage to the economy.
In the end it will all come down to Ronald Reagan's now-famous test for an incumbent president: "Are we better off today than we were four years ago?"
George Bush failed the test in 1992, Clinton passed it in 1996, and if Mr. Krugman is correct, President Bush will fail it in 2004.
