Church schedules annual celebration
The annual Advent Autumn Awakening will be held 4-9 p.m. Saturday at Advent United Methodist Church, 3460 N. Rancho Drive.
General admission is $8; $4 for children ages 5-12; children under 5 are free.
There will be live entertainment, door prizes, tethered balloon rides and a barbecue buffet featuring a 150 pound roast pig.

Volunteers to take part in cleanup
Volunteers taking part in the International Coastal Cleanup at Lake Mead Saturday will meet at 8 a.m. at the Lake Mead Cruises parking lot on Lakeshore Drive.
Each volunteer in the cleanup will be asked to record every piece of trash they collect on data cards that are provided. The cards are compiled, analyzed and tracked year by year, revealing possible patterns in marine debris in a region, state or waterway.
Tips offered on protecting children
Family to Family Connections Northwest will hold a free three-step program 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd.
Diana Carlson-Pardee will share recent scientific facts with parents on how they can help protect their children from unnecessary illnesses and minimize problems associated with allergies and asthma.

Dance program set for library
A-Z Dance will present "2001 Stars" 2-4 p.m. Saturday and "2001 Season Finale" on Sunday at the Clark County Library Theatre, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.
General admission is $8; $6 for children 6-12; and children 5 and younger are free. All proceeds will go to the Las Vegas Senior Center. Call 369-2160.
Event to benefit ballet youth program
Saks Fifth Avenue is sponsoring the St. John Fall 2001 Fashion Show and Luncheon at 11 a.m. Friday at Spanish Trail.
The fashion show will benefit the Nevada Ballet Theatre's youth program. A gourmet meal will be catered by the Sterling Club at Turnberry Place.

Stores to host program for kids
Barnes and Noble and B. Dalton bookstores will be hosting book fairs noon-5 p.m. Saturday at all Southern Nevada stores to benefit "Spread the Word: Kids to Kids" program.
Kids to Kids gives an initial distribution of five books along with a black canvas tote bag to at risk pre-kindergarten through third grade children.
