Insurance meetings set for school staff
Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001 | 11:46 a.m.
Now that a new health care plan is about to take effect, Clark County School District support staff employees are being required to attend meetings on how their new insurance will work.
The current plan that is about to be dissolved had been run by the support workers union and was known as the Education Support Employees Association Health Trust. It was the focus of numerous complaints from cafeteria and other support workers for failing to pay claims.
The district and the Education Support Employees Association (the support workers union) Wednesday signed a three-year pact for health insurance with Health Plan of Nevada, a subsidiary of Sierra Health Services Inc.
The plan becomes effective Sept. 15. School officials did not have figures for the cost of the contract.
Until Sept. 15, support staff workers for the district are asked to continue contacting the health trust before scheduling medical care, except for emergencies. After Sept. 15, Health Plan of Nevada will handle all inquiries.
Last week an independent arbitrator awarded the district control of the health trust following employee complaints that medical bills were going unpaid and they were being turned down for medical care.
