ATM, online banking affected by computer crash

Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001 | 11:10 a.m.

NEW YORK -- Citibank restored service at its 2,000 automated teller machines after they were shut down intermittently for a second day by computer software problems. The company's online banking services remained out of commission.

Citibank said the "the ATM network has been restored at all Citibank locations, and we expect to resolve all remaining issues shortly."

Some of Citibank's online banking customers said, however, that they still were unable to access their accounts late Wednesday.

The bank said it put 500 service representatives into its branches to deal with customers during the outage, which began at about 5 p.m. Tuesday and continued intermittently on Wednesday.
