Music festival brings classics to the canyon

The Grand Canyon Music Festival continues this weekend through Sept. 22 at the Shrine of Ages amphitheater on the Grand Canyon's South Rim.
The festival's 18th season features music by classical composers Debussy, Brahms and Schubert as well as modern composers Gerswin, Sondheim and Copland.
Composer in residence Brent Michael Davids will premier a new piece for string quartet Sept. 22 as part of the Native American Composers' Apprentice Program.
Performers include Jubiland Sykes, Alan Chow, the Miro Quartet, the Miami String Quartet, Maria Bachman, Jon Klibonoff, Brent Michael Davids and festival founders Clare Hoffman and Robert Bonfiglio.
Performances begin 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sept. 21 and 22. Tickets are $18 for adults, $8 for children. Hotel packages are available.
