Hard Rock to host volleyball

Beach volleyball returns to Las Vegas this weekend for the annual King & Queen of the Beach tournament at the Hard Rock hotel-casino, the $150,000 final event of the 2001 AVP Tour.
Pool play will be Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the sand court stadium in the Hard Rock parking lot on Paradise Road, and the finals are Sunday from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Thursday at Sunset Park (10 a.m-3 p.m.), qualifying among men and women seeded 7-14 will add four players to the 16-player weekend field.
In qualifying and pool play, players will switch partners each match and receive points for each victory.
The fields include Goodwill Games bronze medalists Stein Metzger and Kevin Wong, and Barbra Fontana and Elaine Youngs.
Admission is free Thursday. Tickets for Friday are $5, Saturday $10 and Sunday $15. Call the Hard Rock box office at (800) 693-ROCK.
