The Rev. J. Kenneth Edwins
The Rev. J. Kenneth Edwins, 84, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 5, 1917, in Shedrow Honan, China. A resident for 35 years, he was a retired pastor emeritus of Reformation Lutheran Church and a member of the Optimist Club.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie; two sons, John Daniel Edwins of San Diego and J. Kenneth Edwins Jr. of Phoenix; two daughters, Sharon D. Edwins of Las Vegas and Karen M. Evans of Valparaiso, Ind.; two brothers, David Edwins of Minneapolis and Dwight Edwins of Seattle; one sister, Dorothea Knepper of Lancaster, Pa.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Reformation Lutheran Church, 508 E. St. Louis Ave., with a luncheon following at Edwin's Hall. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.
The family suggests donations to Reformation Lutheran Church, 508 E. St. Louis Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89104 or California Lutheran College, Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Jose Hernandez
Jose Hernandez, 73, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 20, 1928, in Havana. A resident for 24 years, he was a retired Sahara hotel-casino maintenance worker and a college instructor of plant biology in Cuba.
He is survived by two daughters, Dr. Loida Hernandez and Maria E. Hernandez, and one son, Ulysses Hernandez, all of Las Vegas; one sister, Florencia Hernandez of Cuba; and two grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Chapel, Main. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.
Mario Matthews
Mario Matthews, 33, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. A resident for 14 years, he was born June 18, 1968, in Buffalo, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra K.; two daughters, Marie Paul Matthews and Mya Jenae Matthews, both of Las Vegas; his mother, Malasia Matthews of Las Vegas; his father, William Matthews of New York City; and two sisters, Dawn M. Sims of Buffalo, N.Y., and Cheryle R. Desi of Windemere, Fla.
Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the Great Commission Interdenominational Church, 3329 Coleman St., North Las Vegas. Burial will be private.
Frank W. Novak
Frank W. Novak, 78, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospice. He was born Feb. 22, 1923, in Herkimer, N.Y. A resident for nine years, he was a retired electronics technician in the aviation industry and a World War II Air Force veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Lucille; one daughter, Carla Novak of Wichita, Kan.; one son, Donald Novak of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.
Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.
The family suggests donations to the Nathan Adelson Hospice, 4141 S. Swenson St., Las Vegas, NV 89119.
William F. O'Brien
William F. O'Brien, 74, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was born July 1, 1927, in Rochester, N.Y. A resident of 31 years, he was a postal employee and a veteran of the Air Force, Army and Merchant Marine. He was a president of the High Rollers chapter of American Merchant Marines Veterans and a member of Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign War, Air Force Sergeants Association, the Retired Enlisted Association and the American Legion, as well as other veteran and postal employee groups.
He is survived by his companion, Bernice Shipman, of Las Vegas; sons Kenneth O'Brien of Las Vegas and Gary Monroe of Rosamond, Calif.; daughter Deborah Lane of Las Vegas; brothers James of Suffolk, Va., and Donald of Williamsville, N.Y.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation is 3 to 5 p.m. today at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, with funeral services 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bunkers Chapel. Interment will be at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City.
Brett Matthew
Pickart
Brett Matthew Pickart, 42, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born July 20, 1969, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A resident for two years, he was a carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Eve; his parents, Beverly and Lyle Pickart; two sisters; and two brothers.
Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.
Marilyn V. Sheehan
Marilyn V. Sheehan, 57, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born March 27, 1944, in Chicago. A resident for 12 years, she was a retired registered nurse and an Air Force veteran.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Sheehan of Las Vegas; and one brother, Richard Vinci of Oceanside, Calif.
Visitation is scheduled 1-7 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Palm Chapel, Jones.
Phyllis P. Waldoch
Phyllis P. Waldoch, 69, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 13, 1931, in Milwaukee. A resident for 20 years, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Waldoch.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph; two daughters, Kathleen Phillips of Mukwonago, Wis., and Dawn Abresch of Germantown, Wis.; one son, Robin Waldoch of Mayville, Wis.; and nine grandchildren.
Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling private arrangements.
