Plane crashes at Mt. Charleston

Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001 | 9:46 a.m.

A single-engine airplane crashed near Lee Canyon Road at Mount Charleston Tuesday afternoon, and the pilot was believed to have been killed.

The Cessna crashed west of U.S. 95 about halfway up Lee Canyon about 4:15 p.m., Metro Police said.

A Metro search and rescue helicopter was sent to the crash site, but bad weather kept it from landing, search and rescue Lt. Tim Leveque said.

"They were able to determine that it is going to be a recovery operation, not a rescue," Leveque said.

The pilot was the only one aboard the plane according to the flight plan, Leveque said.
