Kenny saying no to race for governor

Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001 | 10:33 a.m.

Clark County Commissioner Erin Kenny planned to announce today that she will not run for governor and instead will seek re-election for District F, according to her commission office.

Kenny for months had been said to be the Democratic Party's choice to challenge Gov. Kenny Guinn, whose term ends in 2002. The two-term commissioner, however, had wavered and said she wanted to discuss the decision with her family.

Kenny could not be reached for comment this morning.

Democratic Party chairman Terry Care, D-Las Vegas, was in a meeting at party headquarters this morning and did not return phone calls. Democrats are reportedly looking at former Mirage Resorts executive Dan Lee to challenge Guinn.

Kenny faces several opponents seeking the District F seat. Republicans Devin Smith, Esther Quisenberry and Heidi Vasas have all announced their intention to unseat Kenny.
