The Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, a national organization that honors patriotism and good citizenship, will honor the Boulder City Hometown Fiddlers for their contribution to the advancement of the American ideal.

The group is composed of students from Garrett Middle School and Boulder City High School. They play music in parades and community events dressed in red-white-and-blue flag shirts, blue jeans, cowboy hats and boots.

They will receive the Freedoms Foundation's George Washington Honor Medal during a ceremony in Anaheim, Calif., Nov. 10.

TV station cites student at UNR

A Reno television station has honored a freshman biology major at the University of Nevada, Reno for her ability to teach life-saving and first-aid skills.

Eighteen-year-old April Panpipat of Las Vegas, who is a certified first-aid instructor, received the Class Act Award from KRNV Channel 4 for training hundreds of teachers and support staff with the Clark County School District and the Community College of Southern Nevada.
