Bomb scare turns out to be hoax after evacuations

Monday, Oct. 29, 2001 | 10:41 a.m.

Several businesses, including a children's day care center, were evacuated today following a bomb scare in northwest Las Vegas, Metro Police said.

An employee of a medical facility at 2861 N. Tenaya Way, arriving at work at 7:17 a.m., found a plastic bag with wires and called authorities, police said.

An area of about 1,000 feet around the medical offices was evacuated, including the nearby Children's World day care center, police said. The children were taken to a nearby high school gym. Morning commuter traffic also was rerouted from the area, police said.

The Las Vegas Fire Department bomb squad determined that the device was a hoax, police said.
