Net income down, but revenues rise

Cox Communications Inc. of Atlanta today reported net income of $143 million, or 23 cents per share, for the quarter ending Sept. 30. This was a decline of 83 percent from the year-ago quarter.
The drastically lower income was caused largely by a 62 percent decline in gain on investments, which fell to $470.1 million from $1.25 billion.
Cox's revenues, however, rose 14 percent to $1.03 billion, while operating cash flow increased 12 percent to $396 million.
Cox is the dominant cable television provider in the Las Vegas Valley.
