Union in settlement talks with Park Place over bootleg tapes

Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001 | 9:43 a.m.

A Las Vegas chapter of the Musicians' Union has dropped copyright infringement claims it filed in September against Park Place Entertainment Corp. and a Las Vegas man, who allegedly marketed secretly recorded audio recordings of performances at Caesars Palace by legends like Frank Sinatra.

Local 369 of the Musicians' Union, an affiliate of the American Federation of Musicians AFL-CIO/Canadian Labor Council, and three of its members sued Park Place, Concord Inc. and its subsidiary Neon Tonic Records, Act III Communications and Halcyon Entertainment.

Gilbert Cebollero was named as a defendant for his alleged efforts in producing commercial albums of tapes recorded without the knowledge of Caesars' management by his stepfather, Dave Rogers. Rogers was a sound engineer at Caesars' Circus Maximum showroom.

The plaintiffs said they are now in settlement negotiations with the defendants, but said the lawsuit may proceed if the discussions fail.
