LV firms sued by government

Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001 | 10:47 a.m.

The Federal Trade Commission sued two Las Vegas automobile transport brokers and their owner on Tuesday, alleging some customers nationwide lost money because of the firms' alleged false claims that automobiles would be picked up and delivered in a timely manner.

A AAAAuto Car Brokers Inc., AAA Anywhere Anytime Auto Brokers Inc. and their owner, Katherine Ann Carter, were sued by the government.

They were accused of causing some customers -- who may have bought airline tickets in advance, with flights timed to allow them to pick up their vehicles on arrival -- to cancel flights, lose hundreds of dollars for replacement tickets and sometimes wait weeks or months for delivery.

The defendants could not be reached for comment on the allegations.
