Las Vegas hosting alternative show

The decision by organizers to postpone an October furniture trade show in Dallas has resulted in unhappy exhibitors organizing their own show in Las Vegas.
Officials with the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association decided to postpone their Oct. 5-7 show in Dallas to May 3-5 following the September terrorist attacks.
But a group of independent furniture dealers decided to have their own show and have scheduled it at the Tropicana hotel-casino Nov. 7-9.
"Vendors normally show their products and make new-product introductions at the JPMA show in the fall," said John Alexander, administrator of Baby Furniture Plus, one of the organizers of the alternate show, known as the Association of Independent Specialty Stores. "Postponing the show had a detrimental impact on us."
Alexander said about 1,600 to 1,700 people would attend the Las Vegas show and view 80,000 square feet of exhibits. He said his company has had a show at the Tropicana every spring for the last 10 years -- so it was just a matter of making contact and setting dates.
