Cleanup program set this weekend
A two-day revitalization program, open to individuals and volunteer organizations interested in helping with a cleanup program at Red Rock Canyon will be 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
If you are willing to help remove graffiti and unwanted trails, and improve Willow Springs Picnic Area, Red Springs Basin or Rocky Gap Road, bring along some water and snacks, and the Bureau of Land Management will provide a barbecue lunch.
The cleanup is in recognition of Make a Difference Day.

Senior volunteers sought for project
The West Flamingo Center will host an intergenerational oral history program "That was Then ... This is Now," 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the center, 6255 W. Flamingo Road.
Volunteers are being sought to participate on a panel of seniors to share with young people their personal history and knowledge of events and days gone by.
Presented in a game-show type format, the program's objective is to promote inter-generational contact. For more information, call 455-7742.
Las Vegas looks for applicants
The city of Las Vegas is looking for corrections officers until Nov. 30. About 50 positions are available.
The eight-week corrections officer academy will begin on March 4, with graduation scheduled for April 26. For more information, visit the city's Human Resources department, 416 N. Seventh St., or find the application on the city's website (www.ci.las-vegas.nv.us).

34th anniversary festival on Sunday
St. Jude's Ranch for Children's 34th anniversary open house festival will begin 9 a.m. Sunday at the ranch, 100 St. Jude, Boulder City.
The event will feature American Indian artifacts, dancing, music and storytelling. There will be games for children and other activities, including a rodeo roping demonstration.

The Jewish Federation of Las Vegas'
business and professional division will host a luncheon, "America ... Israel ... the World: Securing Our Future," 11:45-1:15 p.m. Friday in the Bellagio's Monet Ballroom. Guest speaker will be Dr. Steve Rosen. Call 732-0556.
The Las Vegas wheelchair softball
team will hold a clinic/tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday at the softball park, 2941 Harris Ave. Call 254-8404.
The City of Hope's
annual Walk for Hope Against Breast Cancer, a 5K fun run and a 5K leisure walk, will be held Saturday at UNLV's McDermott Complex. Registration will be at 6:30 a.m., the run will start at 8 a.m. and the walk at 8:15 a.m. Call 933-3704.
The Henderson Senior's Auxiliary
will host its annual Oktoberfest 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at the center, 27 E. Texas St. Admission is free. Proceeds from the event's bake sale, craft sale and raffle directly benefit meal programs. Call 565-2100.
The North Las Vegas Library
will host a Halloween costume party for children of all ages at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Call 633-1070.
